Introducing the Mooresville Minute Local Business Spotlight

Starting with this issue, the Mooresville Minute is adding a Local Business Spotlight to highlight local new and established businesses that play an important part around Lake Norman.

The New Victory Lanes Bowling Center Will Bring $25,000,000 Economic Impact to Mooresville in 2027

I would venture to guess that most small towns have a bowling alley but few have one as nice as ours. Paul Kreins, owner of New Victory Lanes at 125 Morlake Drive, has built a one of a kind facility that most folks pass by but don’t know what’s inside.

Alongside the lanes you’ll find a huge arcade, billiards, the Wobbly Butt Tap Room & Eatery, and Wobbly Putt, a brand new 18-hole mini golf course. Add The Lake Norman Big Band, shag and line dancing (lessons included), and stand-up comedy with The Comedy Zone, and you have one of the true gathering places in town — family-operated for 19 years and counting.

The community work is equally impressive. Victory Lanes hosts dozens of fundraisers a year, including one that raises more than $1 million in a single day. Its “Say No to Drugs, Say Yes to Bowling” program gives away tens of thousands of free games to kids every summer. And after Hurricane Helene in 2024, it became a major drop zone, handling hundreds of thousands of pounds of aid for western NC.

And now, the big one: Next year, New Victory Lanes hosts the 107th USBC Women’s Championships — the tournament’s first visit to North Carolina since 2007.

The event runs April 8 through July 25, seven days a week, from 7:30 a.m. to 1:00 a.m. It’s expected to bring 20,000 women bowlers and their guests to Mooresville, generate roughly 60,000 hotel room nights and $25 million in economic impact, and create about 50 temporary jobs for 100 days. Demand is strong enough that the USBC added two extra weeks this summer.

It kicks off with a week-long, nationally televised International Collegiate tournament featuring 300 of the world’s best collegiate bowlers. In May, Victory Lanes also hosts the USBC Queens, the most prestigious event in professional women’s bowling.
